Assistant Professor of Bioanalytical Chemistry
Position Overview
The University of Kansas, Department of Chemistry, Lawrence, Kansas seeks an Assistant Professor in Chemistry expected to commence in the fall semester (August) 2008 or thereafter. This is a tenure-track position. This successful candidate will become a member of the Ralph N. Adams Institute for Bioanalytical Chemistry. The University supports a very collaborative and cross-disciplinary research environment, and shared instrumentation resources for Bioanalytical research are outstanding. They include state-of-the-art microscopy equipment, an 800 MHz NMR, Fourier Transform and MALDI TOF/TOF mass spectrometer, and a microfabrication facility with a class 100 clean room, ICP-RIE and PE-CVD. Consideration will be given to applicants in Chemistry or closely related disciplines. The successful candidate for the position should be eligible to work in the U. S. prior to the start date of the position.
Responsibilities

Maintain an active, well-funded research program in Bioanalytical chemistry or related field.

Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate instruction in chemistry.

Participate in the regular academic activities of the Department of Chemistry, including committee assignments, oral exams, seminars, and advising students.

Provide general service to the department, College, the university, and the discipline.
Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry related field expected by start date of appointment.

Demonstrable research qualifications in the field of analytical or Bioanalytical chemistry as evidenced by graduate and post-graduate coursework and/or publications and conference presentations in the field.

Ability to teach core courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in analytical chemistry as evidenced by the statement of teaching philosophy, experience in making scientific presentations in analytical chemistry, and/or previous teaching experiences.
Preferred Qualifications

Research and teaching interests in Bioanalytical chemistry

Outstanding ability in basic research in Bioanalytical chemistry or a closely related field as evidenced by publications and letters of recommendation

Well-defined plans for development of a vigorous research program of national and international repute in Bioanalytical chemistry or a closely allied area.

Candidates would contribute to the climate of diversity in the College, including a diversity of scholarly approaches.
