Bioanalytical Chemistry Faculty Position

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas is seeking exceptional candidates for a tenure-track position in Bioanalytical Chemistry at the assistant professor level expected to begin as early as August 18, 2010. Outstanding candidates with a proven track record of independent publications and funding can be considered at the associate professor level. The successful candidate will become a member of the Ralph N. Adams Institute for Bioanalytical Chemistry which offers a collaborative and cross-disciplinary research environment. Resources include a state-of-the-art microscopy facility, an 800 MHz NMR, Fourier Transform and MALDI TOF/TOF mass spectrometer, and a microfabrication facility with a class 100 clean room housing ICP-RIE and PE-CVD capabilities. A desire to effectively teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected and a statement of teaching philosophy and interests is required. Position Overivew

The University of Kansas, Department of Chemistry, Lawrence, Kansas seeks an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Chemistry which is expected to begin as early as August 18, 2010. This is a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will become a member of the Ralph N. Adams Institute for Bioanalytical Chemistry. The University supports a collaborative, cross-disciplinary research environment and offers outstanding resources for Bioanalytical research. Shared instrumentation includes state-of-the-art microscopy equipment, an 800 MHz NMR, Fourier Transform and MALDI TOF/TOF mass spectrometer, and microfabrication facility with a class 100 clean room housing ICP-RIE and PE-CVD capabilities. Consideration will be given to applicants in Chemistry or closely related disciplines. The successful candidate for the position must be eligible to work in the U. S. prior to the start date of the position.

Job Duties:

40% Teaching
1. Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate instruction in chemistry.
2. Participate in advising both undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Participate in advising and evaluations of graduate students at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels, including directions of doctoral dissertations.
4. Hold regular office hours.
 
40% Research
1. Maintain an active, well-funded research program in Bioanalytical chemistry or related field.
2.Publish research findings in appropriate scholarly outlets.
3.Present papers at professional conferences.

20% Service
1. Participate in the regular academic activities of the Department of Chemistry, including committee assignments, oral exams, seminars, and advising students.
2. Provide general service to the department, College, the university, and the discipline.

Required Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. or ABD in chemistry or a related field expected by start date of appointment.
2. Demonstrable research qualifications in the field of analytical or Bioanalytical chemistry as evidenced by graduate and post-graduate coursework and/or publications and conference presentations in the field.
3. Ability to teach core courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in analytical chemistry as evidenced by the statement of teaching philosophy, experience in making scientific presentations in analytical chemistry, and/or previous teaching experiences.

For Associate Professor:

All of the above plus an established record of publication in bioanalytical chemistry, as evidenced by CV, as well as demonstrated excellence teaching a variety of courses in specialty, evidenced by record of courses taught, letters of recommendation, or summaries of student evaluations. Research, teaching, and service experience sufficient to qualify for an appointment at the rank of associate professor with tenure. 

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Research and teaching interests in Bioanalytical chemistry with emphasis in cancer related problems.
2. Outstanding ability in basic research in Bioanalytical chemistry or a closely related field as evidenced by publications and letters of recommendation
3. Well-defined plans for development of a vigorous research program of national and international repute in Bioanalytical chemistry or a closely allied area.
4. Candidates who would contribute to the climate of diversity in the College, including a diversity of scholarly approaches.
